Julia Hülsmann, tedesca quarantaduenne, e il suo trio danno musica ai versi di Emily Dickinson. Le note di copertina hanno facile gioco nel sottolineare l’abisso fra il jazz e le circostanze artistiche e storiche della Dickinson, abisso superato però con ispirata eleganza dalla Hülsmann, che evita di «musicare» i versi come se fossero un libretto e si affida piuttosto a melodie semplici e ritmicamente caratterizzate, non sempre in forma-canzone, vivacizzate da bassi mobili che sono a volte controcanti, in un ambito di jazz colorato di pop, alla E.S.T., per intenderci. L’interprete vocale è Roger Cicero, pure tedesco, dalla voce che ricorda Stevie Wonder, in possesso perfino di un decente scat.
