  Come quasi tutte le loro canzoni più famose, I Say a Little Prayer fu scritta da Burt Bacharach e Hal David per Dionne Warwick, ma nessuno dubita che, fra tante, l’esecuzione memorabile sia quella di Aretha Franklin (1968), dove Aretha sembra non avere mai lasciato la chiesa – la chiesa battista di Detroit dove suo padre era predicatore , intendo – , per il fervore pentecostale che mette nell’enunciare i versi –

  La canzone è stata praticata anche da jazzisti: Ran Blake l’ha rifatta da guastafeste, Ray Bryant, invece, così, più vicino ad Aretha (infatti conclude con un bell’amen).
