  Budd Johnson (1910-1984) fu saxofonista tenore, clarinettista, pianista, compositore, arrangiatore e una figura chiave nella nascita del jazz moderno. Un po’ di Google ti spiegherà perché: considera solo che Swing to Bop: An Oral History of the Transition in Jazz in the 1940s, il libro di Ira Gitler del 1985 che racconta la nascita del jazz moderno cucendo fra loro brandelli di decine d’interviste, gli è dedicato con queste parole:

  To the memory of Budd Johnson for his contributions to the music from the ’20 to the ’80.

  He bopped with the best and never stopped swinging.
