One Sister (Julia Hülsmann)

 Julia Hülsmann (1968), pianista e compositrice tedesca, ha conseguito una certa notorietà e considerazione critica soprattutto con le incisioni effettuate per la ECM di cui anche qui sopra s’è dato conto, e tanto è bastato – intendo, l’aver lavorato con la ECM – a renderla sospetta a molti ascoltatori e d’altra parte interessante a molti altri.

 Io, a vero dire, torno più volentieri al disco in cui l’ho conosciuta, disco di oltre dieci anni fa per la ACT e piuttosto diverso da quelli che sarebbero venuti; qui, con il concorso del cantante  Roger Cicero, la Hülsmann musicava alcune poesie di Emily Dickinson con sensibilità e freschezza di sguardo.

Epigram

One sister have I in our house,
And one a hedge away,
There ’s only one recorded
But both belong to me.

One came the way that I came
And wore my past year’s gown,
The other as a bird her nest,
Builded our hearts among.

She did not sing as we did,
It was a different tune,
Herself to her a music
As Bumble-bee of June.

To-day is far from childhood
But up and down the hills

Which shortened all the miles.

And still her hum the years among
Deceives the Butterfly,
Still in her eye the Violets lie

I spilt the dew but took the morn,
